The Graduate Institute of Intellectual Property (IIP), National Chengchi University is a spin-off from its sister institute, the Graduate Institute of Technology and Innovation Management (TIM). Plan was underway as early as 1998 to establish a full-fledge graduate program with focus on the combination of legal, management and technological aspects of intellectual property issues.

Thanks to the support from literally everyone, especially President Cheng Jei-Cheng and Dean Se-hwa Wu of the College of Commerce, IIP was formally established in 2002 with the backing of law and business school faculty members. Since then, IIP has generated tremendous interests from the government, business and research communities. The enrollment and admissions process has been extremely competitive. Even with the recent economic downturn, graduates of IIP have all found suitable job offers and are able to provide their knowledge and capabilities to work.

In 2004, IIP celebrated its third anniversary with TIM. Vice President Annette S. Lu and many dignitaries, including, among others, Dr. V. Vance Roley, Dean of Business School, University of Washington, The Honorable Randall R. Rader, Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Professor Martin J. Adelman, Co-Director of the Intellectual Property Law Program, the George Washington University Law School, Dr. Heinz Goddar, Senior Partner of Boehmert & Boehmert at Munich and Professor Katsuya Tamai, Director of the Department of Intellectual Property, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, University of Tokyo, all spoke at the commemorative international symposium. The IIP/NCCU is truly grateful for their support.
